Now you’ve always heard about “Kite! Kite!” So, what is this Kite?
Kitengela is a plain in Kenya, located in Kajiado County just 30 kilometres south of Nairobi. Its coordinates are 1.4500000 (latitude in decimal degrees), 36.9666700 (longitude in decimal degrees). Kitengela begun as The Kitengela group ranch, made up of 18,292 ha and 214 registered members which was subdivided in 1988 in efforts by the Government to encourage private land ownership in pastoral systems, with the aim of intensifying and commercializing livestock production. After subdivision of the group ranch, land fragmentation and sales have continued at a steady and escalating pace. The town is part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area. The human population within the Kitengela area has exploded, from 6548 in 1989 to 17,347 in 1999 to 58,167 in 2009.

Kitengela is a prime location for those who want to invest. There has been a surge in property demand hence the increase in land prices. However, there are still few nice parcels in kitengela; like Eden View plots that are nicely priced.

Transport
Kitengela relies mostly on road transport and its vast road networks. The area is also served by the Nairobi Namanga Highway. The nearest railway station is the Syokimau railway station .The nearest air infrastructure is the Orly air strip.

To get to Kitengela
If you are using public means, and you are coming from Nairobi town centre, board a bus or Matatus (number 110) from the railways bus terminus. It’s a 30 minute drive when traffic is clear.

Buying Property (Land)
Kitengela is a prime location for those who want to invest. There has been a surge in property demand hence the increase inland prices. However, there are still few nice parcels in kitengela; like Eden View plots that are nicely priced.
Near Kitengela town is the Maasai Ostrich Park, a fairly popular tourist destination 7 km off Nairobi city. There are a couple of many other things you can do while in Kitengela but it is most famous for its Nyama choma joints. Within a radius of one kilometre, one is simply spoilt for choice, from eateries with manicured lawns and clean swimming pools, or taverns with heavy, hazy, air from the roasting meat. Kitengela is considered a haven gateway for Nairobians. There are a couple of night clubs in Kitengela. Some of the common clubs include; Nomad Club, the Nevada Club, Bonitez, Midasz etc. The favourite spot for many remains the Arusha Meat Den; it might not boast the best décor or ambience but it has a more essential quality — good soft meat and honest workers.

Security in Kitengela
Kitengela’s main police station is right on Namanga Road, just before you enter the town from Nairobi. Many people refer to it as ‘Roadblock.’ There is also an AP camp, right next to the Kitengela open air market.

Shopping
Almost every ‘plot’ in Kitengela has a shop serving the residents. In spite of this fact, and thanks to a growing middle class; big-time supermarkets like Eastmatt, Acacia and Naivas have been able to effectively penetrate the market.
